Conrad Leon Evans

Conrad Leon Evans, 84, passed away on June 23, 2011 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He was born on January 6, 1927 in Nash, Oklahoma. He married Joy Janice McKnight on June 24, 1955. Conrad attended Oklahoma State University, Phillips University in Enid, OK, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. He received his Bachelors in Agronomy and Masters in Agronomy with an emphasis in Plant Breeding and Genetics. Conrad worked as the Associate Director for International Programs at OSU from 1978 until he retired in 1993. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Stillwater. He was also a member of the Oklahoma Ethiopia Society, Phi Beta Delta-the honor society for International Scholars, and the American Institute of Plant Engineers. He was an Honorary Bennett Fellow, which is the highest honor given to someone in the School of International Studies at OSU. His defining work was the Ethiopia-Oklahoma A & M Project from 1956-1968. Conrad was the Head of Foundation Seed at OSU from 1968-1973. He administered the World Bank Forestry Development project in Ethiopia from 1990-1995. Conrad was also the President of the Oklahoma International Development Group from 1993-1998. The country and people of Ethiopia held a special place in his heart. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joy Janice Evans of Stillwater, and four sons.
