James Bellatti

James “Jim” Bellatti, 89, passed away in Stillwater, OK, on December 13, 2016. He was the fifth-born child of C.R. and Edith Bellatti in Blackwell, OK, on July 7, 1927. Jim and his family moved to Stillwater in 1939 when his father bought The Stillwater News Press and The Payne County News. He attended Stillwater High School where he met Louise Crosnoe who would become his wife on December 20, 1947. Following his high school graduation in 1945, he enlisted in the US Navy. Upon his return to Stillwater, he and Louise enrolled at Oklahoma A&M from which Jim received a business degree. During this time, he helped his brother Lawrence “Chub” Bellatti found KSPI radio. Jim served as station manager for KSPI from 1951 to 1961. In addition, he served as co-publisher and editor of the Stillwater News Press from 1961-1997. Jim carried on the Bellatti family tradition of becoming involved in the community as he belonged to numerous civic and philanthropic organizations, many of which honored him with awards for his service and leadership. Jim served as Civil Defense director for the City of Stillwater and was a founder of the Oklahoma Emergency Broadcast System. Jim served as president of the Stillwater Chamber of Commerce, the Oklahoma Press Association, the Oklahoma Broadcasters Association, in addition to serving Oklahoma State University in several capacities over the years. In 1999, he was inducted into the OSU Alumni Association Hall of Fame and received the Henry G. Bennett Distinguished Service Award in 1993. Also, he was a tireless worker for the local and international YMCA, as well as for the First Presbyterian Church in Stillwater. Jim is survived by his wife Louise and their three daughters: Jane Armstrong (David), Susie Glasscock (Kirby) and, Becky Bittle (Robert), daughter-in-law Pam Bellatti, as well as by several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and son, Rick.
