Franklin Leach

Franklin R. Leach, 83, passed away July 4, 2016 in Temple, TX . He was born on April 2, 1933, in Gorman, TX, and grew up in Cisco, TX. He earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Hardin-Simmons University, Abilene, TX, and the Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Texas in 1957. He then was a National Research Council fellow in medical science at the University of California at Berkley until moving in 1959 to Oklahoma State University where he taught until his retirement in 1998. During his career at OSU, he taught a variety of courses as well as directed multiple master’s and doctoral theses, as well as advised pre-med students. Franklin also served as the editor for the Oklahoma Academy of Science and was a founding member of the International Society for Bioluminescence and Chemiluminescence. He had 103 publications. Following retirement, he and his wife Anna moved to Temple, TX, where they have been active in the Prayer Ministry and Counseling at Bethel Assembly of God. Survivors include his wife, Anna, a son, Barry Coke, Stillwater, and four daughters, Carolyn (Richard Procter), Sierra Madre, CA; Carol (Robert Huddle), Belton; Janet (Troy Weiss), Anchorage, AK; and Barbara (Doug Perkins), Edmond, as well as by nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Kay, and a son, Alan.
