Eldon Carl (E.C.) Nelson, 82, was born to Carl and Ruth Nelson in Dola, OH, on December 13, 1935, and passed away in Stillwater, OK, on December 27, 2017. E.C. and Martha Joanne (Jo) Hemmerly were married on June 26, 1957. To this union, two daughters were born: Laura and Julie. Following his high school graduation, he attended The Ohio State University, graduating in 1957 with a B.Sc. degree in animal science and agricultural education. He taught vocational agriculture at Belle Center High School for one year, returning to The Ohio State University to complete the requirements for the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees, both in animal science. In 1963, E.C. accepted a teaching and research position in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Oklahoma State University. From 1991-1993, he served as professor and head of the Department of Nutritional Sciences at Oklahoma State. He received a number of prestigious awards for excellence in teaching, advising, and serving as a mentor. E.C. was a Lieutenant Commander in the US Navy Reserve, served for nine years on the Stillwater Board of Education, as president of the Stillwater PTA Council, and was a member of the State PTA Board. E.C. is survived by his wife Jo, his daughters Laura Nelson and Julie Kunzelmann (Michael), as well as by four grandchildren, and a brother.
