Richard Buchanan

Richard Buchanan was born on August, 6, 1946, in Oklahoma City to Harry Lafayette and Ola B. Buchanan and passed away on August 20, 2020, in Stillwater, OK.  Following graduation from highschool in 1964, he worked as a clerk for Sohio Oil Company for two years after which he began working for Kerr-McGee Corp. in its Oil and Gas Accounting Department.  Following his graduation from Central State College where he studied accounting, Richard became the chief accountant of Oil and Gas Worldwide at Kerr-McGee.  He passed the CPA exam in 1977 and established his own CPA practice in 1980.  In 1986, Richard and his family relocated to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, where he practiced public accounting for the expatriate community and served as the executive director of a foundation that provided health care to indigent reservation Indians.  During Richard's last four years in Mexico, he served as the general manager of an assembly operation for the Precious Moments giftware company.  In 1995, Richard and his family moved to Stillwater where he began working on a B.S. degree in International Business at Oklahoma State.  He also took graduate courses at Oklahoma State and taught at OSU in the accounting and finance areas for 22 years before retiring in 2017.  Richard was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and his sister.  He is survived by his wife Diane, his son Adam (Nicole), his daughter Bethany, and four grandchildren.  He is also survived by a brother, Larry, and a number of nieces and nephews.
