Murphy, Kay

4-9-2021

Kay Murphy was born in 1942 in Buffalo, NY, but moved at an early age to Marilla, NY, where her mother taught home economics.  In college, Kay followed in her mother's footsteps by majoring in home economics at SUNY Buffalo.  She and her future husband, Pat, met in Gloversville, NY, where both she and Pat taught.  They moved in Stillwater in 1967 so Kay could earn her master's and ultimately her doctorate at Oklahoma State University.  Kay taught in the Department of Family Relations and Child Development at OSU.  During the summers, the Murphy family generally took road trips to explore the country and to visit family.  Ouray, CO, was a favorite.  Upon retirement, Kay and Pat purchased a cabin near Creede, CO, where they enjoyed hiking, jeeping, and fishing.  Kay was a frequent participant in the Road Scholar program and OLLI.  She delivered meals for Mobile Meals beginning in 1972.  She was a frequent volunteer in the Friends of the Stillwater Public Library program as well as Elite Repeat and the League of Women's Voters.  Kay was predeceased by her husband Pat.  She is survived by two children, Tim and Kelli, and her daughter-in-law, Erin, as well as by two grandchildren, two sisters and one brother, as well as by their spouses and children.
