Betty Howell

Betty Jo Thomas Howell, 90, passed away on May 21, 2016. She was born on August 15, 1925, in El Dorado, OK. Betty graduated with a bachelor’s degree in home economics from Oklahoma State University in 1947. Following graduation, she worked as a home economics demonstration agent in Hobart, OK, where she met LeRoy Howell. They were married on July 31, 1949. To this union, four children were born: Joe (Elizabeth), Tulsa; James (Nancy), Edmond; Suzanne (Daryl Baxter), Guthrie; and Barry (Molly), Atlanta Georgia. Betty and LeRoy raised their family in Hollis and Hitchcock, OK, and moved to Stillwater in 1979. She was active in the Eagle Heights Baptist Church, volunteered at Stillwater Medical Center (Gift Shop and Same-Day Surgery Center), participated in the Oklahoma Botanic Garden Ambassadors Program, and was a member of the Stillwater PEO Chapter and the OSU Alumni Association, and served as director of the First Baptist Church Sunday School. Her special interests included gardening, bird watching, reading, and spending time with family. In addition to her children and husband, she is survived by 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, as well as a brother and a sister.
