LeRoy Howell, 93, passed away on July 5, 2016. He was born on November 8, 1922 in Stratford, OK. After graduating from Oklahoma A&M where he earned his bachelor’s degree in agronomy and his master’s degree in adult education in 1964. Completion of his undergraduate degree was interrupted in 1943 when he was called to active duty in the Armed Services in which he served through the end of World War II. LeRoy was decorated with numerous honors, including a Purple Heart in 1945. He and Betty Jo Thomas were married on July 31, 1945. To this union, four children were born: Joe (Elizabeth), Tulsa; James (Nancy), Edmond; Suzanne (Daryl Baxter), Guthrie; and Barry (Molly), Atlanta Georgia. Betty and LeRoy raised their family in Hollis and Hitchcock, OK, and moved to Stillwater in 1979. LeRoy had a successful career as a county extension agent, and he especially enjoyed working with 4-H clubs and assisting farmers. LeRoy’s hobbies included gardening, watching OSU sports, as well as participating in Kiwanis, the Oklahoma Horticulture Society, and his church. LeRoy was predeceased by his wife, Betty. He is survived by his children, 11 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
