Mavis Jones

Mavis Jones, 88, was born in Carter, OK, on November 25, 1927, and passed away in Stillwater on January 13, 2016. He graduated from Lake Creek High School in 1945, after which he joined the United States Navy from which he received the World War II Victory Medal. On November 18, 1949, he married Wilene Matheny in Magnum, OK. In 1960, Mavis graduated from Oklahoma State University where he earned the bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. He worked for the Soil Conservation Service for 38 years, retiring in 1986 as the state’s watershed construction engineer. In 1985, he was named as the Oklahoma Soil Conservation Engineer of the Year. Following his retirement, he worked as a private consulting engineer for the Oklahoma Conservation Commission. He is survived by his wife, Wilene, his two sons, Gary (Christine Miller) and David (Diana), his daughter Lori Boyer (Greg), four grandchildren, and four brothers and their families.
