Disposition of Financial Gift: The generous gift of $10,000.00 mentioned above came from Kathrine McCollom. Reports and Updates
President- Elect
Sharon Nivens
Anne and Sharon reported ratification of 2 new members over the summer. Ron approved and Russ seconded and passed. We had only 8 new members total join this year so far. Sharon again mentioned it is impossible to find all new retirees as we no longer get a list from H.R. since the new Banner system has been in place. She is able to get only faculty names from the newspaper. Anne mentioned the problem with Banner is a program must be written to pull the list of retirees. She will go back again to H.R. requesting the urgency of this program.
Judy Lewis reported communication continues with Natalea Watkins on the banner, some of the pictures don’t work.
Glade mentioned the Technology Interest Group classes have a high attendance rate and the next class is 2 days after our September dinner meeting. Glade attended the last Athletic Council meeting and learned the Base Ball Field renovations are moving forward.
Vice-President Activities
Dennis Bertholf
Dennis will introduce the Alumni Association Director, Chris Batchelder, our speaker for September 11 dinner meeting. Clem mentioned Klein’s catering will provide the meal. Anne will invite our recent scholarship recipient, Devin Peck to one of our upcoming dinner meetings. Ron mentioned that a few meals each dinner meeting are subsidized for over age 90 folks and guest speakers.
Travel Update
The trip to Ponca City did not make. Anne mentioned if we are planning a Fall trip it must be set up soon in order to make reservations and get a bus if needed. Chuck Leider suggested a day trip to OKC Devin Tower and the area nearby. He will get information about touring Devin Tower and area close by to Jack and Jody soon. A trip to the Chrystal Bridges Museum and grounds in AR was also suggested.
Interest Groups
Zane Quible
Our next “Making the Most of Retirement” class:” What Makes Stillwater a Great Place to Retire”? Speaker is Cristy Morrison. Date is September 20. Our October class in the “Armchair Traveler Series” will be presented by Stan and Barbara Grogg: “Cruising from Cape Town South Africa to Singapore”. Zane mentioned he has the speakers lined up for 2018.
President
Anne Matoy
Anne mentioned we need a Benefits Committee volunteer to stay up with the Benefits for Retirees and also work on a guide for Retirees. This guide would give instructions on whom to contact during retirement when questions come up about life and health insurance, who to notify at time of death and any useful information that comes up during the life of an OSU retiree.
Communications and Updates
In the update for September Anne will include: the Call for Volunteers for committees and Ambassadors. Also include a special invitation for someone to step up and be the Communications/ Photographer that we need immediately.
In the News Letter she will mention that a One on One Visit is the best way to recruit new members. Think of your recently retired OSU friends who might be interested in joining you as your guest at one of the dinners. She will also add a request for any ideas on travel trips.
Ambassadors (Football Greeters)
Russ Wright
The Alumni Center will not be open for the first football game. So it seems they will not have a need for Ambassadors for the first game. Russ will find out about the need for Ambassadors at any future games.
He said we had almost enough volunteers for graduation with regular staff helping and all worked out pretty well. If attendees arrive late they may not set where they would have liked and they can be upset about it.
University & Faculty Committee Appointments
We have an opening for the Committee- Intellectual Property. John Kirkpatrick is on the Long Range Planning & Information Technology.
Constitution/By-Laws/Policies & Procedures
Andrea Arquitt
Andrea submitted and distributed the report in advance with some minor changes. The council discussed the report and added a few minor changes as well. Dolores made a motion to approve the few changes in the By-Laws. Kay seconded and motion passed. Chuck made a motion to approve the minor changes in the Policies and Procedures and Ron seconded and motion passed.
Past President
Russ Wright
Officers and Committee Chairs for 2018
Russ Wright
We need a Communications Committee person. We have 3 councilors going off but Doug has filled in for one year and has now agreed to stay in position for the full 3 years. Chuck Leider has been on for 6 years and his term is ending. Bob Wettemann has agreed to stay for 3 more years. Ron would appreciate the opportunity to show his replacement all the good information about being the Treasurer this year since his term is ending soon.
University/Faculty Standing Committee Report
Faculty Council
Anne Matoy
The recent Faculty Council meeting was short and just the usual money woes but not much to report.
Adjournment
At 3:00 the meeting was adjourned. Next meeting September 25.
Respectfully Submitted,
Tana Rutan
